Spooky crafts!

Just under five years ago we moved to our current location.  We knew a small handful of people within a 30 minute drive.  Our kids are very social, and Sunshine was still in public school.  I quickly found a preschool for Belle to attend a couple days a week.  But I was having a hard time settling in.  I needed mom friends.  We often joke about how hard it is as a stay-at-home-mom...picking up friends at the park or while we're at Target.  Yep, I've done it.  Both places.  :)  One great outlet for making friends has been MOMS Club®.  We joined shortly after moving here.  MOMS Club® is an international, non-profit support group for at-home moms.  However, in the past five years the dynamic of our club has changed as the economy has changed and more moms are going back to work (or as their kids grow and they choose to enter the workforce again).  I have made great friends and have had many opportunities for service projects and field trips with the kids that wouldn't have been possible without this organization.  I've also served on the board and as activity contact, and I'm currently serving as an Area Coordinator with the International organization, helping other chapters stay in the loop and keeping them informed of what's going on with the organization as a whole.

Kids' treat cups on top, Moms' votive holders on bottom.
All of that to say that today we hosted MC at our home.  The particular event was a Pinterest Party.  We get together once a month to create a craft that someone has found on Pinterest.  Today we made spooky votive holders, and the kids made a modified version as a treat cup.

Supplies:
clear glass votive holder
sharp scissors
gauze
black paper
hole punch
googly eyes
sharpie marker
hot glue
LED votives

Directions:
Mummy votive holder:  Cut gauze down the middle to make narrow strips.  Add a dot of hot glue where you want to start wrapping the gauze.  Start wrapping the votive to make it look mummified.  Add a dot of hot glue in the back to adhere the end of the gauze.  Affix two googly eyes.  Insert LED candle so your mummy glows.

Spooky eyes votive holder:  Cut strips of black paper (we used scraps of scrapbook paper) long enough to wrap all the way around the votive holder.  Punch eyeball holes (2 holes close together) in the strips. Attach the strips around the votive holder using hot glue.  Use the sharpie marker to make eyeballs in the middle of each hole.  Insert LED candle so the eyeballs glow.

Kids' version:
Supplies:
small plastic cups
double sided tape
sharp scissors
gauze
googly eyes
treat!

Directions:
Cut gauze down the middle to make narrow strips.  Affix a strip of double sided tape to the cup.  Begin wrapping gauze around cup to make mummy.  Affix end of gauze to tape (add more if necessary).  Add googly eyes.  Insert treat for kiddos!

I think our kids had as much fun playing with the baby and the other little ones as the moms had making the mummies.
