Class trip to Washington DC! (Day 1)

For her birthday, hubby and I gifted Sunshine a trip to Washington DC.  That was last spring, and she's been reading travel books and websites since then.  This morning, our alarm clocks went off at 3 a.m. so we could leave the house before 4 to catch a 6:20 flight.  We landed in DC and settled into our hotel rooms in plenty of time to make it to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch.

Sunshine is very interested in anthropology (evolutionary and social, to be exact).  Her number one priority, and our first stop after fueling, was the National Museum of Natural History.  After reviewing the map, she chose the Early Humans exhibit as our starting point.  It was educational and thought provoking, and the high point of our time at the museum.  We also saw the African Voices exhibit, the live butterfly habitat, a Bollywood exhibit, Oceans, Mammals, the dino bones...we saw it all!

After our time at the museum, we decided to walk the mall area and take in some touristy sights.  We walked to Washington Monument, the WWII Memorial, and the Reflection Pond.

This is the house across the street from Ford's theater.  Abraham Lincoln was taken to this house after he was shot.  This is where he died.
